About Death Clock
Death Clock is a research-backed life expectancy calculator that tells you exactly when you're going to die, based on peer-reviewed longevity science. Then it helps you cheat.
The Science (It's Not Made Up)
Our algorithm synthesises data from 1,200+ peer-reviewed studies spanning 53 million+ research participants. Every impact factor is mapped to a specific study with a published sample size and methodology.
Sources include: the Harvard 80-year longitudinal study on adult development, the Copenhagen City Heart Study (n=8,577), the VA Million Veteran Program (n=719,147), Framingham Heart Study, NIH ARIC study (n=15,752), NHANES cohorts (n=468,629), Lancet meta-analyses, JAMA Psychiatry research, and the Finnish sauna study (JAMA, n=2,315).
Each factor shows its source study and sample size. No made-up numbers. No AI hallucinations. Just cold, peer-reviewed math telling you uncomfortable truths about your lifestyle.
How the Calculation Works
Step 1: We start with the SSA actuarial life table (2023 period table) for your age and sex. This gives your statistical baseline life expectancy.
Step 2: We apply 100+ adjustment factors based on your answers: exercise, diet, sleep, social connections, stress, medical conditions, biometrics, environment, and lifestyle habits. Each factor's impact is derived from peer-reviewed research.
Step 3: We calculate your adjusted life expectancy, project your death date, and generate a personalised plan to push that date as far into the future as possible.
The streak system: When you log daily habits, each one contributes a fraction of its annual research-backed impact. Log "Walk 30 minutes" (research: +3 years) for one day? That's +0.008 days. Streaks amplify with multipliers (7-day: 1.5x, 30-day: 2x, 90-day: 2.5x, 365-day: 3x) to reward consistency, the single most important factor in behaviour change.
Medical Disclaimer
Death Clock is not medical advice. Our estimates are based on statistical averages from published research. Individual results vary enormously based on genetics, accidents, medical breakthroughs, and factors we cannot measure. Many conditions that affect lifespan are undetectable without lab work.
Always consult qualified healthcare professionals for medical decisions. Use Death Clock as motivation to make better choices, not as a substitute for professional medical guidance.
